Amport II 155 – all out
B Joseph 5-21
Penton I 179 – 8
C. Joseph 53
Penton won by 24 runs
Penton climbed up to 5th position in regional division 1 north after the local fixture went in favour of Penton this year.
Penton openers Huw Rouse (48) and Corbett Joseph (53) were able to find the boundary on 15 occasions and progressively increased the score until Tom Startup’s quick reactions stumped Joseph off Rory Griffin’s bowling, with the score on 97. Rouse followed soon after when the ball was played onto the wicket off Griffin’s bowling. Bevon Joseph (18) began with a six and then hit 4’s to the boundary, but Startup was in action again with a stumping off Darren Goacher’s bowling. The batsmen kept the momentum going, but after 6th man Kerry Charles (27) was caught off Eddie Glover’s bowling the tail was kept to minimal scores by the bowling of young Tally O’Farrell who took 3 wickets. Penton finished the 42 overs on 179 for 8.
Martin Randall (37) and Paul Bruen (16) started the Amport innings well, but Barry Kavanagh’s bowling paid off when Charles caught Bruen with the score on 56 and Randall followed quickly after when Martin Patrick took him lbw. Eddie Glover (29) pushed the score along but wickets were beginning to fall. Penton’s total looked in doubt when Rory Griffen started to find the boundary with 4’s and 6’s, but Rouse’s stumping off Patricks bowling came as a relief to Penton with the score on 147 for 8. Bevon Joseph took his 5th wicket to end Goucher’s innings and the Amport tail quickly fell with the score on 155 all out.
