Ropley II 154 – 9
N Gerrard 58; Martin Patrick 5-32 (top Gun)
Penton I 155 – 5
B Joseph 81
Penton won by 5 wickets
Ropley opened the batting and Penton quickly took the wicket of Chris Fuller, but Nick Gerrard’s tall presence remained until the 25th over with a deserving score of 58. Runs were not easy to get for Ropley, partly due to the tight bowling of Penton but also due to the long grass in the outfield. Tom Stroud hit 19 runs and Toby Sampson hit 23, but the wickets kept creeping up and Martin Patrick ended his 10 overs with fine figures of 32 for 5. Penton couldn’t get the last man out and Ropley finished on 154 for 9.
Penton’s innings began with a shaky start after Richard Jenson was caught for 4 and Corbett Joseph was run out for 13 after misjudging the quick reactions of Ropley’s fielders. Bevon Joseph steadied the innings with a fine total of 81, including his usual crowd lifting display of eight 4’s and two 6’s, but luck ran out after being dropped four times when John Sutton finally took his wicket. Huw Rouse nudged the total along, but it was Morgan Vanandal who got the total close to victory with a fine innings of 33 not out and Mark Hodgson took Penton past Ropley’s total with 155 for 5.
