Penton climbed up the Regional Division 1 North West table after their 8 wicket win against OT & Romsey IV’s.
OT’s opener Barney Hayes was quickly out for 1 off Kerry Charles’ bowling, but Martin Weeks and Andy Roberts stayed their ground and pushed the score along to 84 in the 23rd over when Andy Carr’s impressive outfield throw took the bales off the stumps just before Weeks reached the crease. With Weeks out on 48, Ieuan Wathen kept the score moving upwards with fine boundary shots, but Steve Patrick held a hard shot catch to leave Wathen on 39 and OT’s at 151 for 3 off 31 overs. Roberts fell shortly after on 40, and the young batsmen of OT’s pushed the score along but ended their 42 overs on 189 for 9, with Kerry Charles taking 5 wickets.
Opener Martin Patrick didn’t get a chance to shine and was bowled by Finn Holden for a duck, but John Hunter and Kerry Charles cautiously tapped away at the score and started to find the boundary off the occasional weaker ball. Charles reached 60 when he was caught by Jack Darnton with the score on 95 for 2 off 17 overs. Richard Jenson was able to keep the momentum flowing and along with Hunter’s fine steady display they took the total to 190 in the 32nd over, leaving Hunter on 44 and Jenson on 58.
Next Saturday Penton are away to Whiteparish.
